Anyone can buy attention.
The most trusted brands earn it.
When you’re quoted by journalists, published by respected industry websites, or interviewed on leading podcasts, something shifts. People see you differently — and that difference shows up in every conversation you have with prospects, investors, and partners.
Prospects trust you before the first call
When a buyer has already read your name in an industry publication or heard your take on a podcast, you walk into every sales conversation pre-validated. The trust that used to take three meetings to build is already there.
Google rewards authority with visibility
Every guest article and media mention that links back to your site strengthens your domain authority and improves your organic search rankings. Earned media is one of the few things that helps your SEO without paying for ads.
Investors and partners take notice
A consistent media presence signals that your perspective is sought after, that journalists return your calls, and that your industry considers you a credible voice. That perception opens doors that cold outreach can’t.
It keeps paying dividends after it’s created
A paid ad stops working the moment you stop paying for it. Earned media compounds. An article published six months ago still ranks. A podcast episode still gets discovered. The authority you build this month works for you next year.
AI systems cite the sources they consider authoritative — are you one of them?
A growing share of buyers now start with ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overviews before they ever reach your website. These systems synthesize answers from sources they’ve determined to be credible — and the signals they use are the same ones journalists and editors use: published bylines, industry citations, expert quotes, and a consistent media presence. Earned media creates those signals. A bylined article in a respected publication, a podcast interview with a large engaged audience, or a quote in a major trade outlet — each one tells AI systems that your perspective is worth surfacing. In Content Marketing 2.0, Rick covers why AI visibility is now a prerequisite for content that actually reaches buyers. Earned authority is one of the fastest ways to build it.
“Advertising can get your message in front of people. Earned media makes people believe it. That’s not a subtle distinction — it’s the difference between being seen and being trusted.”
— Rick Ramos, CMO & Author, Content Marketing 2.0Four pillars of consistent authority-building
This isn’t a press release service. It’s an ongoing system for putting your expertise in front of the right audiences, month after month, across every channel where credibility is built.
We monitor journalist requests daily across major media databases and pitch your expertise to reporters actively looking for credible sources. When the right opportunity appears, we move fast — because response time is the difference between being quoted and being ignored. Your name in a Forbes article or TechCrunch piece does more for your authority than a year of social posts.
We identify the publications your customers and peers already read, develop article ideas editors will actually accept, write the content under your byline using your expertise and voice, and manage the full editorial process through to publication. Every published article builds both your reputation and your SEO — a backlink from a respected industry site is worth more than almost any other link you can earn.
We research podcasts in your industry with engaged audiences, pitch you as a guest worth booking, coordinate scheduling so nothing falls through, and help you prepare talking points so every interview positions you as the expert — not just a founder with a story. Podcast listeners are one of the most engaged, high-intent audiences in any market. One good interview puts you in front of thousands of them.
Every month you receive a clear report showing which opportunities were pursued, what coverage was earned, what’s in progress, and where we’re building momentum next. No guessing about what’s happening. No vanity metrics. A real account of what’s working, what’s in the pipeline, and how the strategy is evolving based on what the market is responding to.
Built for companies that sell expertise.
If your business grows through trust, referrals, and reputation — rather than high-volume outbound or direct-response advertising — then earned authority is one of the highest-leverage investments you can make.
This isn’t right for every business. If your sales cycle is short, your product sells itself, or you’re primarily dependent on paid traffic, there are better places to invest first. Earned Authority is for businesses where the question a buyer is asking before they engage is “can I trust this person?” — and where the answer to that question determines whether the deal closes.
A consistent system, not a one-time campaign.
Month 1 is about building the foundation. Every month after that is the system running.
We start with a conversation to understand your business, where you want to build authority, who your audience is, and what you’ve already tried. Earned Authority isn’t right for everyone, and we won’t take you on if we don’t believe we can deliver meaningful results for your specific situation.
We develop your authority narrative: the specific angles, expertise areas, and points of view that make you worth quoting, worth publishing, and worth interviewing. We identify the publications, outlets, and podcasts where your audience is paying attention. This foundation drives every pitch we make.
Media pitches go out to journalists with active requests. Guest article ideas get developed and pitched to target publications. Podcast booking requests go to relevant shows. All three channels run simultaneously, every month, because authority compounds when it comes from multiple directions at once.
You receive a clear monthly report covering what was pitched, what landed, what’s in editorial review, and what opportunities are building for next month. We refine the approach based on what’s working — which angles are getting accepted, which publications are receptive, which podcast formats are booking.
About Rick Ramos
I started in marketing during the early commercial internet, running campaigns for what was then the 17th largest website in the world — including two campaigns that crossed three billion impressions. I’ve been earning media, placing content, and building authority for brands for more than two decades.
After adtech, I spent eight years as CMO of HealthJoy, taking the company from zero to a $500 million valuation. During that time I learned what it actually takes to make a brand credible in a crowded, skeptical market — and it wasn’t advertising. It was showing up consistently in the places your buyers were already paying attention.
I wrote the first edition of Content Marketing in 2013. I’m publishing Content Marketing 2.0: Built for the AI Era in 2026. My work has been published in Forbes, TechCrunch, VentureBeat, Inc., Entrepreneur, and HuffPost — not because I ran a press release, but because I built a point of view worth quoting. That’s the same system I use for the clients I take on.

A note on the three-month minimum: Authority isn’t built in a week. Editors need to see your name more than once. Journalists need time to learn that you respond quickly and deliver good quotes. The three-month minimum exists because that’s the realistic timeline to see the system working — not because we need your money, but because one month won’t give you an honest picture of what this does.
Limited availability. We work with a small number of clients at a time.
Before you apply
How is this different from a traditional PR agency?
Most PR agencies have dozens of clients, junior staff handling day-to-day work, and a heavy focus on press releases and vanity metrics like “media impressions.” Earned Authority is a small-roster retainer where Rick is directly involved in your strategy and pitching. We focus on placements that actually build credibility — bylined articles, expert quotes in relevant publications, podcast interviews with real audiences — not spray-and-pray media blasts.
How long before I start seeing results?
Some placements happen fast — a journalist picks up your expert pitch within a week of it going out. Others, like guest articles, take 4–8 weeks from pitch to publication because of editorial timelines. Podcast bookings typically run 4–6 weeks out. Month 1 is strategy and groundwork. By month 2 and 3, you’re typically seeing active placements. The three-month minimum is set specifically because that’s the window where the compounding effect becomes visible.
What does the application process look like?
You fill out a short contact form or send an email, and we schedule a 30-minute discovery call. On that call we learn about your business, your goals, your existing presence, and where you want to build authority. If it’s a strong fit, we’ll outline a proposed approach and move forward from there. If we don’t think we can deliver meaningful results for your situation, we’ll tell you directly.
How much of my time does this require?
Less than you’d expect. We do the research, drafting, pitching, and coordination. What we need from you is: availability for a monthly strategy check-in (30 minutes), quick turnaround on quote requests when journalists are on deadline, and availability for podcast recordings once they’re booked. Most clients spend 1–2 hours per month on their end. The heavy lifting is ours.
Do I need an existing media presence or large following?
No. Many of our best-fit clients are building their public profile from scratch. What matters is whether you have a genuine point of view, real expertise in your field, and the ability to give a useful quote or a compelling interview. Journalists and podcast hosts care about what you know and how you communicate it — not your follower count.
What industries do you work with?
We work best with businesses where expertise is the product: B2B SaaS, professional services, consulting, technology, agencies, fintech, health tech, and executive personal brands. If your business grows through trust and reputation rather than high-volume transactional sales, there’s likely a fit. We’ll tell you on the discovery call if we don’t think your category is a good match.
How does this work alongside my content marketing or social media?
Earned authority and owned content are complementary, not competing. An article we place in an industry publication can drive traffic to your site. A podcast interview can become a content asset you share for months. Guest articles reinforce the thought leadership your blog and social media are building. If you’re also running the Managed Content Service, the two systems amplify each other significantly.
Is there a guarantee?
We don’t guarantee specific placements, because editorial decisions are ultimately made by editors and journalists — not by us. What we can commit to is consistent, professional execution: daily monitoring, active pitching across all three channels every month, and transparent reporting on everything we pursue. We also won’t take you on if we don’t believe we can deliver results in your category. That’s the honest version of a guarantee.
